| The Sachem Farm |
Though I have all the yarn I could possibly ever want from my own flock of Romney sheep, I still enjoy knitting with yarn from other small family farms. My good friend and fellow shepherd, Jennifer, from The Sachem Farm in CT, raises a small flock of Romney and Border Leicester sheep. A year or two ago, after visiting with Jennifer, I found myself coming home with an armful of her yarn. I was drawn to the lovely green yarn with flecks of blue, yellow, and red. I held on to my stash of Sachem Farm yarn for a few months, trying to decide what to knit. Last spring, Jennifer introduced me to a poncho pattern from Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. I am constantly wanting something around my shoulders during the long Vermont winter, and this poncho seemed just the right thing.

It took me 8 months to complete the poncho as I have been nursing along a hurt hand and have limited my knitting time. Jennifer’s yarn has a lovely drape and wonderful handle, which made knitting a delight, despite the monotony of just knitting a large rectangle. In December, I finally finished my poncho and I have been warm ever since. Thank you Jennifer!
