Felting…Felting…and More Felting

posted in: Felting, Fiber Arts 2

For the past month, my dining room, and living room, and kitchen, and bathroom have been filled with felting projects in various stages. All flat surfaces are covered in wool, yarn, buttons, needles, and silk. I don’t respond to emails, laundry goes undone, I let the answering machine monitor phone calls, I don’t write blog posts, and the dog has spent many a day sleeping at my feet while I felt.

This fall, at the end of our foliage madness of farmstay guests and sheep festivals, I applied to be a part of an art show and sale happening on the first Saturday in December. I am not sure what I was thinking, I can only guess that I was not thinking clearly from utter exhaustion of  a busy summer and fall season. Four weeks prior to the show, I was notified that I had been accepted and they were excited to have my felted garments and accessories in the show.

I have always taken a few felted items along to the sheep festivals that I go to, but I have never done a show with just my felted projects. As soon as I was accepted, I realized that I had little inventory and had less than one month to come up with felted items. With just one day left before the show this Saturday, I am already looking forward to next week when I can get caught up on all of life that has been put on hold the past month.

Here is a preview of some of the garments and accessories I will be taking on Saturday to the art show at New Moon Cafe in Burlington, Vermont. Each garment has a story, a place, and a purpose.
